Boat Covers - Just the Facts

marine supply

Choosing the right boat usually takes a great deal of time and patience, so it's wise to also spend time researching the many boat covers that can be used on your boat. The exciting news is that good boat covers will extend the life of your boat. You can find these covers at several different prices, but be aware that price does not always indicate quality.

It is important to understand what differentiates high quality boat covers from cheaper imitations. Quality, not price, should be your priority. First, you must decide whether you want a custom boat cover or a universal boat cover. Custom boat covers are designed to fit the exact model and year of your boat. The advantage of the custom boat covers is that they will fit tightly. The particular size and shape of your boat are taken into consideration. This means that gapping is minimized and your boat is better protected.

Universal boat covers are designed to fit all boats within a given size range. They provide adequate protection and are significantly less expensive than custom covers. However, you may experience a loose fit or some gapping. If you choose to go with a universal boat cover, be sure to purchase one that is as close as possible to the actual size of your boat.

A high quality boat cover should have certain protective features. Your boat cover should be UV and mildew resistant. UV light can cause many fabrics to break down, so UV resistance will help the cover last. Do not trust a manufacturer who claims that a boat cover is mildew-proof, as mildew is inevitable in the damp conditions experienced by a boat cover. However, mildew resistance will help to inhibit the growth of mold.

Check the seams and corners of your boat cover to make sure that they are well made and reinforced. Also, check the tie-down straps and buckles to make sure that they are well constructed and well attached. You want your boat cover to hold up against the inevitable abuse that it will take.

If you plan to put your boat on a trailer, look for a cover with special straps to tie the cover to the trailer. Special straps and hoods are also available to secure the cover around the bow of the boat and around an outboard motor. While not strictly necessary, these extra features help the cover to fully protect your boat.

Boat covers come in a variety of fabric types and colors. Lighter colors are generally a better choice as they will reflect light and minimize heat buildup underneath. Polyester and high polyester content blends are considered ideal fabrics due to their light weight, lack of stretchability and superior water resistance.

It is important to understand the basics about boat covers in order to make an intelligent decision about which one to purchase. A good boat cover is truly an investment in protecting your boat. To find a reputable dealer, check boating books or an online boat forum for recommendations. You can also look in the telephone book under "boating gear" or "boating supplies," but be sure to check out an unknown dealer carefully. Wherever you choose to buy your boat cover, remember that quality is the most important factor.

YACHT WEDDINGS

YACHT WEDDINGS

Imagine a yacht, fully lit up, decorated with satin ribbons, rosettes, balloons, flowers, champagne flowing, the yacht cruising along, a soft breeze blowing, and the even softer sounds of water splashes; this could be your big day, a perfect Yacht Wedding. The clear, blue waters sparkling in the evening sunlight, and ladders to go down for a swim in the waters as well. A yacht wedding is an enchanting event, almost out of a dream.

A yacht wedding, though exciting, also requires a lot of planning. Like deciding how many guests you are going to have on board, the kind of ceremony you wish to have, be it a civil wedding, church ceremony, or a simple exchange of vows. A wedding is the most important day in the lives of the bride and the groom, and having in as a yacht wedding leaves you with the most memorable day ever. And not only the couple, even the family, friends and guests will have an amazing memory-filled day to take home. Imagine giving your guests an invitation to attend your ‘yacht wedding’.

Another plus point of having a yacht wedding is that you can make the same boat your honeymoon destination as well. After the ceremony, the couple waves off to their family, friends and guests, and goes on a cruise on the yacht for their honeymoon. That makes the day all the more memorable. There are many agencies that actually offer you a complete, planned yacht wedding, with the overnight stay and the next day cruise included.

Yacht weddings are however, quite expensive, as a lot of work goes into it. The planners also arrange for a professional crew to man the yacht, and they also take care of all the on deck preparations. A normal yacht wedding without much extravagance would cost around €1020 and a lavish, rich yacht wedding, no holds barred would cost up to €5000.

YACHT RACING

YACHT RACING

Yacht racing is a very entertaining and challenging sport, played in various world games as well. There are different kinds of yacht racing, and various types of yachts used for them. Some of the yacht racing is done in small outlets called buoys or also small areas in protective waters. Sometimes, a longer yacht race is held in open waters too. Yacht racing is governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing. The various types of yachts used may be catamarans, dinghies, boats, and propose-built racing boats.

Harbour/buoy racing is the most popular form of yacht racing. It is held in protected waters, and does not normally last long. This yacht racing is probably the shortest type, lasting from minutes to few hours at the most. It is held usually in the form of a regatta, where many races are held, and the yacht with the most wins is declared the racing champion. The race consists of laps, with the pre-set course that the yachts need to go through.

Inshore yacht racing is another type where the race is done along the shoreline of land, and not in protected waters. These races can last long, sometimes going on over several days. One kind of Inshore yacht racing is the famous Swiftsure yacht racing. This includes many races running side-by-side, with different skill levels, some of them even overlapping with each other across the same distances. This kind of yacht racing is normally held at racing clubs and the like.

Another yacht racing is the Offshore racing, which are the really long ones, held out in open waters. Some of them even go into a circumnavigation of the entire world. There are some other types of yacht racing as well, like the famous Three peaks yacht racing, which is held in UK. This is a team event, which includes a three tier racing system – sailing, cycling and running.

YACHT INSURANCE

YACHT INSURANCE

Yacht insurance is very important for people who own yachts. It is a safety net for the yacht owner in case of accidents, damage to the yacht, or any kind of repairs that may be needed. Especially in the case of luxury yachts, yacht insurance becomes very essential, since the yachts themselves are expensive. And when these are rented out for charters, there is every possibility of minor or major damages to the yacht. This is where the insurance coverage helps, to cover the costs of repairing the yacht.

Having yacht insurance is not necessarily a compulsory obligation on the part of the owner, but yet most people go for one. It saves them a lot of worry and money as well. Also, insurance agencies will cover the costs even if the yacht is stolen or if parts of the yachts are stolen. Yacht insurance need not necessarily become an expensive affair. An insurance broker can set up a fixed quote for you to pa each month, which will reduce the overall cost that you pay to keep the insurance. However, when choosing the yacht insurance quote, you need to ensure that it is in accordance with the market standards.

Yacht insurance comes in different schemes.  Some of them will cover costs only till the cost of the yacht, while others will cover costs of accessories as well. Owners who rent out yachts for charter will do well to take an insurance that covers both yacht and its accessories. One way of reducing the insurance quote costs of the yacht insurance will be to pay a larger amount in-excess, which is the initial payment that is made towards the scheme.

While taking yacht insurance, the agent needs to ensure that all the owners’ needs are met. The agent has to pay attention to minute details as well, and prepare a comprehensive and fully clear chart wherein the owner does not have any doubts with the yacht insurance policy.

MOST FAMOUS YACHT IN UK

MOST FAMOUS YACHT IN UK

There have been many famous yachts in the UK, but the most well-known of the lot if the Gipsy Moth IV. It was commissioned by Sir Francis Chichester in the 19th century as a 54 feet ketch boat. The yacht is the 4th boat made by Chichester. The yacht had a unique ability created by Blondie Haster, enabling this famous yacht to be steered from the skipper’s cabin directly. This came in very handy especially for sailing solo in the high waters.

This famous yacht was originally launched in March of 1966, from the Plymouth port. The yacht measured 38 feet inside the water-lines, and a complete 53 feet otherwise. The sail size of the yacht is 854 square feet, which can be expanded up to a huge 1500 square feet. The hull of the famous yacht is made out of a cold-mould of the Honduras mahogany, which is extremely durable, having lasted all these years till today.

The famous Gipsy Moth IV yacht gained a lot of records in its first voyage itself, like being the fastest small yacht to make a voyage around the world; the longest passage made by a yacht, non stop; it was double the distance covered by the last solo voyager; and also the record for the fastest single-handed sailing by any vessel. In august of 1972, Sir Chichester passed away, leaving this famous yacht abandoned. It never sailed again, and was displayed permanently in England. For some years it was open to the public, who were eager to get on board the famous yacht, but after a while, this was also stopped due to the deterioration of the decks.

After 40 years of being on land on display, the most famous yacht of all time was finally taken back into waters recently. This marked the 40th anniversary of the famous voyage of this famous yacht with Sir Chichester as its skipper.

The charges that most charter agencies demand for weekly luxury yacht cruises vary from about 20000 euros to 60000 euros. This is the reason many private yacht owners let their yachts out on rent, as it beings in a very good income.

Luxury yachts consist of different levels, 4 to be exact, the main deck, the upper deck, the lower deck and the sun deck. The main deck of the luxury yacht is the outer part which is sheltered by the upper deck. The upper deck is the one housing the outdoor dining areas, the lower deck has the swimming pool and guest cabins, and the sun deck is situated on top of the upper deck, usually equipped with the Jacuzzi.

A luxury yacht is generally 23 meters or above, and most of them have a minimum of at least 3 of the above described decks. The captain’s room is generally found at the upper deck, as is the bridge. There are luxury yachts with more decks as well, but the standard seems to be 3 to 4 decks.

Banana Boats And A 101 Lesson

Banana Boat: Having Fun In The Water

Even if you are out of the summer season where ever you may be in the world, this does not stop you from heading off to the water park or oceanside in order to have fun on the water. In fact, there are still hundreds and hundreds of people who head for the beach every day to spend time under the sun and have fun riding banana boats. If you are one of those people who want to enjoy the beach before the seasons gets too cold for swimming and playing in the beach, gather your family and head for the beach immediately.

Getting Ready For Your Family Vacation

An unplanned vacation can be exciting but if you are bringing your kids along, an unplanned vacation can lead to a series of mishaps that can be very stressful and frustrating for everyone. By planning out your vacation at the beach in advance it will avoid and prevent some stress and frustration. Make sure that you include the whole of your family when making holiday plans so that you are all aware of what to expect during your vacation.

After discussing the details of your vacation with the whole family, book your reservations at a child friendly resort. Resorts that have a child friendly environment exist all over the United States. These resorts are great in that they cater for children of all age groups. Most of these child friendly resorts offer banana boat rides for children. Banana boat rides are controlled and follow safety regulations to ensure that your kids are safe and that you do not need to worry about injuries and suchlike.

What Is A Banana Boat?

Banana boats are designed for recreational use and are pulled by a motorized vessel. It has no power driven by itself. Stating the obvious a banana boat gets its name from the fact that they look like a banana when strung together. The brave people that are to ride the boat will sit with their legs either side of the tube which is attached to 2 smaller tubes. The two smaller tubes that are attached on both sides of the large tube provide balance and footrest for the riders.

The Dangers Involved With Banana Boating

Riding on the large tube provides kids the opportunities to ride close to the water without really endangering themselves. Note that unlike water-skiing or surfing, banana boat rides do not expose the kids to a lot of dangers. The bigger boat controls the speed of the banana boat so there is really no danger of the boat going out of control unless the big boat itself in out of control.

Before Buying A Luxury Speed Boats

If people have their way majority will opt for a luxury speed boat.

These are the boats that many can only dream of. Luxury boats are an excellent way to conduct occasions, leisure cruises, quiet fun filled moments, romantic events and a leisurely way of sailing the water in complete sophistication. These are the boats that are a clear statement that the person owning it has already arrived to the world.

Luxury speed boats like many sea going crafts could be built from the comfortable to the most luxurious. Builders of these boats employ a team not just of engineers but interior designers as well to provide (at the specification of the owner) the epitome of comfort and luxury in sea going vessels.

The only standard in a luxury speed boat is the cabin, a hull and a wheelhouse. Outside of the basics appointments could vary widely. The appointments and amenities will only have one goal in design – to provide that which is best. And so while luxury speed boats differ from one to another, they are similar in purpose.

Time Sharing and Boat Renting

As with any product, comfort and quality will always command a price. And while many people want to have a luxury speed boat, not everyone could buy it. However there are several ways to owning a boat. One way to do it is through time share. Time sharing is not only an excellent way to start having a luxury boat; it is also a great way to familiarize the self with one before the person eventually decides to buy his own. As mentioned, luxury speed boats design vary widely and since luxury speed boats requires great investment and an equally good amount of time and money to maintain, time sharing or even renting one is a good start.

Dealership

When a person have finally decided the kind of speed boat he wants, boat dealership people will just be too happy to be of assistance. People from boat dealerships will prove to be another source of help and a wealth of information regarding boats, boat designs, trends and prices. Before settling for one though, remember that the primary motivation of sales people is not to offer you what you want if they do not have it but to make a sale.

Boat Manufacturers

Try also the boat manufacturers. There are a great many boat manufacturers both on site and on line which will be a great source of assistance and information. Expect brochures and pamphlets to be sent to you. Again, boats are a personal issue. This is truer with boat builders. Expect then that builders will be biased towards their work. If the claims are examined closer without the sales pitch, you will find that there is merit to their claims; your option has just grown wider.

Ask the Experts

Luxury boat owners are experts. If they have been with their boats for a time, they will be the best people in the know regarding the satisfaction level that they have with the current boat that they own or the upgrades that they would want in the future. Even when they are tying to sell the boat to you, a sailor's personal affinity and respect for his boat will always show.

How To Prepare For A Day At The Boat Auctions

A Few Things You Should Be Aware Of Regarding Boat Auctions

Boat auctions is a great means of finding the boat of your choice and many times you will get boats that are almost new and at a price that is considerably lower than its retail value. It is common to see great brand named quality boats such as Meridian, Stingray and Centurion that are being auctioned off by a bank, repo company or the state, you would be astonished to see how competitive the prices are. Thus, when you go to boat auctions, you may very often is able to pick up outstanding bargains and sometimes you could even end up paying just ten percent of the original retail price if you are lucky.

Do Your Preparatory Work

However, before you enter the boat auctions makes sure that you have done your preparatory work and are well armed to get the best out of your experience. First off, you should get hold of a copy of the datasheet from the manufacturer regarding the boat of interest to you as it will enable you to find out the specifications with regard to the boat. Next, you need to check out the maintenance history of the boat that is being sold at the boat auctions and ensure that it has been regularly maintained especially note the engine hours, history of damage, equipment, and paint and also the interior. And, if the service history of the vessel shows that it has had numerous owners it may therefore have had a series of problems and may not be considered a good choice.

When you go to boat auctions and wish to purchase a boat, you should make it a point to be very observant and attending the preview would be recommended, and it also pays to keep a cool head during the auction and avoid getting into bidding wars, which more often than not, will end up causing you much unwanted remorse.

If you do spy a boat that you are interested in start off by giving it a good once over visually by looking at component parts like the steering, pumps, cables, throttle controls and ofcourse the hull. In any case, you need to devote much time and also closely inspect the engine and look for things such as whether the bilge has oil in it which can indicate leakage of oil. And, if you feel that you do not have the proper qualification to perform these checks, take the help of technical hand.

Prior to offering a bid at the boat auction you should have gone some way to obtaining what the approximate market value of the boat is and set an upper budgetary limit based on this valuation. Also, stay clear of claims that seem to be too good to be true and also fight shy of police and salvage auctions which are not professionally run.

Contractual Obligations

Ultimately, should you be in the position to have won the bid ensure that you have all the contractual details written down. Spend a little more time to look at other opportunities as they are always bargains to be taken advantage of.

Buying a Speed Boat Now

Speed boats are generally classified according to size, the accommodations, designs and the materials from which they are made. There are a variety of boats out there for the choosing. It is often that one dealer alone could have up to 40 models of speed boats for different types of purposes.

Typically, speed boats are small motorized boats that are designed for speed and agility. This is why a speed boat original function is for pulling water skiers, races and other water competitions. Because of its speed and quickness, it became ideal for use in patrolling beach lanes and is even proving its value as attack military vessels.

While the term speed boat often sparks the mind with the small agile and sleek looking crafts, there are different types of speed boats. An inflatable boat with a fast and strong motor attached to it is termed also as a speed boat though its main use is reconnaissance, beach landings and patrolling.

Power plants
Speed boats are equipped with power plants that are classified according to how the motor is installed. If the motor is removable, it is called an outboard motor but if the engine is installed in the boat it is called a power plant.

• Inboard/outboard are hybrid power plants. This power plant has its gear reduction and propeller outside the speedboat while the main engine is installed within the boat.

• Outboard motors are usually used in smaller crafts where the internal combustion engine, transmission and propeller are installed at the rear of the boat.

• Inboard engines have everything inside the boat except for the propeller and the shaft that connects it to the engine. Typically there are two types of purely inboard motors, the direct drive and the v-drive.   The v-drive engine is mounted at the back of the boat where the shaft runs towards the boats front making a V shape at the rear. The direct drive power plant is mounted in the middle of the boat with the propeller sticking towards the back of the boat for the propeller.

As speed boats are basically built for recreational use, most speed boats are made of fiberglass bottoms. While the original concept of speed boating was for sports and fun, the choices of speed boats gradually increased in variety and it is now common to find 40 different models to choose from in a many speed boat dealers. While many are still in the smaller sized category from 15 feet to thirty feet, specialized fishing boats and the luxury speed boats are also in popular demand.

Depending really on how the owner of a speed boat envisions its use, these boats could be made according to a buyers' specification and could offer him a lot of configurations. Luxury speed boats for example are well made and well spec-ed with all the appointments that an owner would like to have. Some speed boats are designed for sport and multi purpose fishing that could be sailed both on saltwater and fresh water with anglers on board, bedroom compartments, plumbing, a galley and are designed to stay in the water for days.

Owning a speed boat is very personal to most buyers that the design, color themes, graphics etc. could be configured to fit the owners requirements.

Boat Show: To Buy or Not to Buy A Boat?

Many bargain hunters flock to boat shows for one reason: to get the best deal. Experts also agree that the best place to buy speed boat, or any type of boat for that matter, is at boat shows.

We can categorize boat shows into two: on-season boat show and off-season boat show. Each varies widely and may play a big factor on deciding to buy or not.

On-season boat shows are those held during summer, when the demand for new boats is high. Here you can see a range of showcase boats, state of the art boat technology and latest designs.

Off-season boat shows are those held during winter or the periods from January to March. This is commonly referred to as winter boat show because on colder weather states, the show is held during winter months. Since there is no winter in the Gulf Coast, California and the beaches of Florida, boat shows that happen during these months are called off-season boat shows. Most boats here are the previous year's models. Shows are held to sell off existing models to give way to new models on the coming boat season.

The deals from these shows vary as well. At on-season shows, prices may be a little higher and dealers are less likely to bring down their prices. It can be attributed to the demand.  Another reason is that dealers pay a premium price to place their boats on the show, not to mention the transportation cost of moving their displays from their dealership to the show area and back. Dealers have to recoup these expenses by passing them to their costumers. Off-season shows are no different. But since dealers aim to sell their existing models before the new boats arrive, they are more likely to bring down their prices or add cash discount and freebies.

Thus, it is important that when you buy a boat, you know when the right time to buy. If you are planning to buy the latest model, then shows during summer may help you get what you are looking for. If you are looking for bargain, then winter or off-season boat shows are the places to go.

One important thing to consider is that not because you go to an off-season boat show, it doesn't already mean that you will get the best deal. Many boats may not be as affordable as you think they are. So, to give you better chances of landing on a better, if not the best deal, use boat shows to your advantage. Learn as much information as you can, build relationship with dealers and visit their dealerships to make a deal. Make sure that you do your research first so that when you are on the site, you are properly armed with the right information. Go do different boat shows and learn as much information as you can.

Speed boat is a real financial investment so unless you can afford to make a mistake and buy another unit if you are not satisfied with you previous purchase, you have to make sure that you get it right the first time. As a rule of thumb, buy only if you have done thorough research, have identified what you want and have a financial standing to either pay cash or apply for loans.

Tips Regarding Fiberglass Boat Repair

Fiberglass Boat Repair Is Something That Virtually Every Boat Requires Once At The Very Least

There are very few fiberglass boats that will not require boat repair done to them, and if you want your boat to be shipshape and in good as well as safe working condition, it is something that should be done the moment a fault are detected. Let's face it you don't want to leave it too late and find out that you have to carry out a repair whilst at sea because the inherent danger and frustration this may cause.

A good sailor will always ensure that his boat, fiberglass or otherwise, is in perfect working order and will perform boat repair as and when necessary, which will help to make the experience of being a boat owner that much more pleasurable.

Repair The Boat - The Fiberglass Hull

Among the common boat repair that you may need to perform is when the hull becomes damaged which may occur when a sudden grounding takes place, or the boat collides with something, or even because the wooden hull has rotted away. Thus, in case of anything going wrong with the hull, you should undertake boat repair at the very earliest to ensure safety of the boat and its occupants.

Another thing that requires boat repair is damage to the rig, which is something that can be accomplished in a straightforward manner and all it may require is to order replacement parts and making the necessary replacements.

It may the the situation whereby the repair of the boat involves the line, in such instances ensure that you are using the correct material and the correct length. However, if you need to repair the standing rigging, then this is best done by a professional and getting professional advice in any case is also a good idea.

Another aspect of fiberglass boat repair is repairing the sails which, depending on the extent of the damage, may need to be carried out by a pro. Minor damages such as minute tears as well as punctures can however be performed by a non-professional as it may only require attaching self-adhesive patches.

Finally, boat repair may even require that the trailer is repaired because wheel bearings as well as lights may break down and these should be checked regularly. To add to this please chack the pressure of the tires to ensure that they are inflated to the correct level and also look at the tire walls to see that they are not showing signs of cracking.

With these simple fiberglass boat repair guidelines in mind, you should be able to keep your boat shipshape and thus enjoy safer boating.
